Back to the Reading Terminal Market

Mary and Judy returned to the Reading Market like moths to the flame.

She says, "Very crowded for lunch but the layout keeps you moving. Here's an old picture of the market,,,Then we stopped at an Italian bakery and thought Fran might enjoy seeing some of their delicacies. Actually, Fran, you would love this place. Lots of Italian markets and the smells were wonderful. Wish I could bring a big plate of something  home on the train."

Ewwy Gooey cakes never appealed to me -- I was never the one to ask for the rose on the birthday cake slice... Of these three things, I would take whatever cookie/biscuit thing on the right -- could that be cinnamon? then whatever the nut patty thing is and then the cupcakes.

I've never seen these -- have mixed feelings about the concept of clove cookies, but I do like the idea of a dryer cookie with great coffee.

Monday Evening

Nothing much to report. It turned suddenly cold -- in the 30s, and I miss having the garden door open for fresh air. Am almost finished with my true crime book -- it's only 250 pages and, even at that, the author had to stretch it out. In addition to every detail about everyone, he talks about other cases in Texas and goes off into tangents. Nearing the end when all the perpetrators are in jail. I guess the trial is short, or he doesn't cover it.

Let's see what the week develops. Gee, my exciting week entails a podiatrist appointment. Wow! What a whirlwind life! Publisher's Clearinghouse emails me daily now, and today's message is that the Prize Patrol is on alert for me. As we say in NY, "from your mouth to God's ears." I'll act as goofy as you want for the commercial.

What I'm Reading

I really enjoyed the John Grisham book and am sorry it's over. With a good book like that, I'm always torn between wanting to know how it ended (some suspense there) and not wanting it to be finished. When I read the last page, I turned the page hoping there was more, but no such luck.

So I've returned to true crime with "Love Hurts."

Normally I'd cut and paste the plot from Amazon, but the cover tells the story. It's a true story of a murder in 2008 in Alba, Texas.

And Cheesesteak for dinner

Mary's and Judy's "Dutch breakfast" was followed by another Philly favorite: cheesesteak -- which is one of my guilty pleasures.

Mary says: We went to Steve's. Geno's was a little too far. It was good and filling. he suggested the traditional whiz with onions so we went with it. Now we're back at the hotel and ready to get in jammies and watch bad TV.

Reading Terminal Market

Mary is in Philadelphia with her sister and they went to the Reading (Pennsylvania) Terminal Market for a late breakfast. Mary says, "We walked around and stopped at the Reading Terminal market for a late breakfast. It's like a super sized Eastern Market. Had great eggs and ham and fresh orange juice at an Amish market inside."

Mary later corrected and said it was a "Dutch" market, not Amish. Anyway, I love places like this -- the sights, the smells, the hub bub.
How can you go wrong at a "Dutch Eating Place?"

That's Judy checking out the menu.

Can't you smell that yeasty goodness?? Give me a loaf, some butter and soup and I'll sit down and be quiet!
Here's a menu where I'd be hard-pressed to choose only one! I like that REAL mashed potatoes is listed twice. Hadn't seen those ketchup/mustard squirters in a long time!
